Photos & Recap: Starbenders @ The Masquerade - Atlanta - 7/14/2018
One of Atlanta’s hottest new rock bands, Starbenders, played a send off show before embarking on a national tour supporting Alice In Chains. The band had no trouble getting their hometown crowd dancing to the beats of their classic and new songs from their recently-released EP, Julian.
If you have been paying attention to the Atlanta local rock scene, you probably have heard of Starbenders. After all, it is hard to miss a band that rocks like this. The band regularly plays gigs at Atlanta’s indie venues and has quickly gained the support of their local fans with their catchy glam rock-inspired music and charismatic stage presence.
This time they played at the Masquerade’s Hell stage before heading out on tour with Alice in Chains (who Starbenders opened for when they stopped in Atlanta a few months ago). The hometown farewell show also served as a fundraiser to Children of the Night, a non-profit helping exploited children.
The Starbenders’ set started in a familiar fashion. ‘Blood’ started with a deep and slow bass line but quickly intensified to an emotional rock song completed by Kimi Shelter’s haunting vocals. The crowd did not stop dancing as the band went through some of their more popular songs from their debut album, Heavy Petting, and their new EP Julian. “Paper Beats Rock” and “U Like Me Know” could easily be considered classic Atlanta rock songs in the next few years. But it was the fast paced “Downtown” and “Zero”, along with the catchy “Julian” that sealed the deal that night at the Masquerade.
The Starbenders’ tour may last for a big part of this Summer, but their hometown fans will patiently wait for that next killer Starbenders Atlanta show.
